Why Criminal Defense +
Attorney Spogmay Khaliq discovered her passion for criminal defense in law school.
The first time she walked into the Harris County Criminal Justice Center, she saw people from every walk of life. Some were scared. Some were crying. Some were waiting for answers.
That passion eventually led Attorney Khaliq to become a public defender, where she represented hundreds of clients with different lives, different circumstances, and different stories. She learned to challenge evidence, question assumptions, find weaknesses, and keep pushing when the first answer was no.
An accusation does not define a person, and no client should feel like they are fighting alone.
She prepares. She questions. She pushes.

What to Expect in a Criminal Case +
Every criminal case is different, but most cases move through several important stages.
1
Arrest, Investigation & Bond
A case may begin with an arrest, a warrant, or an investigation before charges are filed. The earlier we can begin protecting your interests, the better.
2
First Court Appearance
Your first court appearance does not necessarily mean your case must be resolved that day.
3
Discovery & Investigation
We look for what is missing, what does not match, what was overlooked, and what can be challenged.
4
Building the Defense
Sometimes the most important part of a case is not what appears in a report. It is what the report leaves out.
5
Motions & Pretrial Litigation
When there is a legal issue worth fighting, we fight it.
6
Negotiations & Resolution
An offer is not automatically a good offer simply because it was made. The decision belongs to the client.
7
Trial
A strong defense is built throughout the life of the case.
8
After the Case
Probation, driver’s license consequences, expunction eligibility, and record clearing may still need to be addressed.
How Long Does a Criminal Case Take? +
There is no single timeline.
Some cases may resolve within a few months. Others may take longer because of evidence, laboratory testing, motions, negotiations, court schedules, or trial preparation.
We do not believe in rushing a case simply to close a file.
II — Every immigration path is different
Immigration law is about more than where someone came from—it is about where they are trying to go.

Here’s What the Process May Look Like +
No two immigration cases follow exactly the same path.
1
Consultation & Case Review
Immigration cases can turn on small details. The goal is to understand the full picture before deciding how to move forward.
2
Determine the Right Path
Family petition, adjustment of status, consular processing, naturalization, asylum, or removal defense—the next step depends on the type of case.
3
Preparing the Case
The goal is not simply to submit forms. The goal is to present a complete, organized, and supported case.
4
Filing & Government Review
Khaliq Law Firm helps clients understand what each notice means and what needs to happen next.
5
Interviews & Court Hearings
You should not walk into an important immigration interview or hearing wondering what comes next.
6
Decision & Next Steps
If the outcome is unfavorable, options may include motions, appeals, refiling, or another form of relief.
How Long Does an Immigration Case Take? +
There is no single immigration timeline.
A case may take months or significantly longer depending on the type of application, the government agency handling it, interview availability, and immigration court scheduling.
Immigration is rarely one-size-fits-all.

Why Personal Injury +
For Attorney Spogmay Khaliq, personal injury is personal.
Before becoming an attorney, Spogmay was injured in an accident. Her side of the story was not reflected in the police report—and attorneys rejected the case without fully hearing what she had experienced.
She built her legal career in personal injury, first at one of the largest personal injury law firms in Texas, then at a mid-sized firm, learning every stage of a claim. She understands that the file never tells the whole story.
We listen first. Then we investigate.
Your story deserves to be heard.

How a Personal Injury Case Moves Forward +
Every personal injury case is different, but most claims move through several important stages.
1
Consultation & Case Review
The process begins with your story.
2
Investigation & Evidence
The goal is to understand not only what happened, but what evidence proves it.
3
Medical Treatment
Your health comes first. It is often important to understand the full extent of an injury before resolving the claim.
4
Building the Value of the Case
A personal injury case is about more than a stack of medical bills. It is about what the injury changed.
5
Demand & Negotiation
The insurance company’s first number does not necessarily determine the value of the case.
6
Settlement or Lawsuit
Not every case goes to court. But every case should be prepared with the possibility that it could.
7
Medical Bills, Liens & Recovery
We work to address accident-related medical bills and liens as part of resolving your claim.
How Long Does a Personal Injury Case Take? +
There is no single timeline.
A straightforward claim may resolve within several months. Cases involving serious injuries, disputed fault, lengthy treatment, or litigation may take a year or longer.
The fastest resolution is not always the best resolution.
